Dave Havir, acknowledging that many of our brethren across the country are having horrendous problems, feels frustration that he cannot solve these problems, even though he does point people to the scriptures and reliance on God in order to bolster faith and hope. Satan does not want us to have genuine faith and hope, but has created a counterfeit found in philosophy and the world’s religions, suggesting that God is obligated to answer every prayer in the affirmative (“name it and claim it”). If several verses are taken out of context, it is possible to distort the scriptures to ‘support’ this notion. As the movie Bruce Almighty humorously pointed out, if every prayer were answered in the affirmative, chaos would result. Sometimes God answers a prayer in the negative for our overall good. Faith is beliving God’s promises on the basis of firm and clear evidence, much of which is unseen, some which will not come to fruition until after the Resurrection and into the Kingdom of God, realizing that perfection will never come in this physical life. Artificial hope (fed by charismatic personalities of deceptive leaders who promise peace and prosperity, when their policies lead to the opposite) will lead to disillusionment and despair. As this world deteriorates, we should call out for that hope that we have read and heard about over the years, embracing the spark of desire or the hope for the New Jerusalem and the Kingdom of God. Abraham’s faith - Artificial faith - Artificial hope - Bruce Almighty - Bursting bubbles - Evidence of things not seen - God’s promises - Love - Name it and claim it - Proof texts - Simeon - Spark of desire - Spiritual gifts - Take it to the bank |
