Stan West suggests that when we read an inspirational book, even one that is controversial, we often recommend the book to others. Because of its X-rated or R-rated content, the Bible could be considered undesirable for our children, but as the events unfold, valuable life lessons accrue to them as the consequences of immoral behavior (including homosexuality and incest) become visted on their perpetrators. Also, the cause-effect consequences of national sins and the curses which follow are laid plain in the Bible, lessons given to us for our example. We need to encourage our young people to read the lessons in the Word of God to survive. Emerson suggests ‘Tis the good reader that makes the good book’; in every book he finds passages which seem to be confidences or sides hidden from all else and unmistakably meant for his ear; the profit of books is according to the sensibility of the reader; the profound thought or passion sleeps as in a mine, until it is discovered by an equal mind and heart.” Ammonites - Angel of the Lord - Balaam’s donkey - Balaam - Eglon - Greek mythology - Homosexuality - Kidnapping - Lying - Moab - R-rated - Sexual improprieties - Sodom and Gomorrah - Stealing - Talking animals - War - Wild animals eating children - Wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove |
