Neil McIver, reflecting on the occasion of Mother’s Day, suggests that mothers may hold our hands for a little while, but they hold our hearts forever. Motherhood is a divine calling. Scriptures are replete with examples of mothers who have remained faithful to their calling. Faithfulness seems to be disappearing in today’s society, with commitments becoming severely attenuated. God Almighty exemplifies faithfulness and continues to work through all generations. Faithfulness means to following through regardless of the difficulty; it is love hanging on, refusing to quit. We are to be faithful in stewardship, in service, in marriage, in witnessing, in prayer, in following God, and in following the truth, in good times and bad, even unto death, as displayed by our Elder Brother Jesus Christ. We must emulate examples of faithfulness, providing examples for those who follow us. Faithfulness is love hanging on characterizing the intense love of a mother.
