Luke Przeslawski, recounting an episode from his early life when his brother received a serious head injury, concludes that some people can be gracious and kind, while some can be calloused and cold; and there are times when someone needs to lead us by the hand. God wants to change us by humbling us, making us kinder and gentler in the process. God is going to change us, making us better people. We are humbled by getting old, losing our job, losing our health, and other life experiences. Joseph was not worthy to be a leader until God humbled him through slavery and twelve years in prison. Only when we realize that we are a tool in the hands of God can God use us. David was used mightily by God after he had become humbled. As Shimei cursed David, he acquiesced, realizing that God might be humbling him. If we desire to be leaders in the world tomorrow, we must have genuine humility. God desires servant leadership, not prideful authoritarian leadership, exemplified by Satan, welling up in pride and arrogance, looking down on others, and despising others. God does not want any more Satans. God will directly humble the first fruits, grainding us into fine powder. If we share in Jesus’ glory in the future, we must undergo humbling now, relying on the love of Jesus Christ to bolster us.
