James Moran, reflecting on Luke Przeslawski’s sermon from last week on “being humbled in service to God,” suggests that we must examine ourselves regarding the trait of humility. When F.D.R. gave his Pearl Harbor address, he ended it with the words “so help us God.” Today the secular progressivists have pushed God out of our national life turning this nation into a modern Sodom and Gomorrah. Why should God bless this nation anymore? Like the little lamb whose master had broken his leg and then set it in order that he become dependent, we also must remain humbly dependent upon our Creator, regarding our trials as humbling experiences to draw us closer to God. Our nation has entered into a period of darkness, and people love it that way; President Obama boldly procaims that it is not a Christian nation. We no longer have a government, but a ‘giverment’. All governments on the face of the earth are corrupt, but God ultimately is in charge and is capable of giving the Nebuchadnezzar treatment to any presumptuos leader. So, God is allowing misguided leaders to destroy its economic system, making our nation economic slaves. In the midst of this darkness, we must humble ourselves before our God.
