Dave Havir, reflecting that Pentecost commemorates the giving of God's Law and God's Holy Spirit, focuses on the significance of our calling using the analogy of the invitation to the wedding. The host determines the dress or protocol of the event. The invitations represent our calling into God's Kingdom. We dare not take this invitation lightly. We need to be prepared and watchful in order not to be turned away. Collectively, we are betrothed to be the chaste bride of Christ. We are held accountable on how we influence one another during this time of betrothal. We focus on our calling not only because we will be a guest of the wedding, but also for our role as a participant in the wedding—namely, as the affianced bride of Christ. We need to make preparations for this wedding now, taking personal responsibility, individually following the Lamb.
