Neil McIver, cuing in on his wife’s suggestion that he ought to pray more and worry less, focuses on the example of the ravens feeding Elisha and the subsequent miracles of the perpetual meal and oil and the healing of the widow woman’s son. The thing that unites all of humanity is that we all have physical and spiritual needs; thankfully, we have the promise that our Creator will supply all of our needs. Even though our exposure to truth leaves us open to all kinds of problems, we are expected to learn how to rejoice in our trials, an opportunity to partake of Christ’s sufferings and to build character. If we expect to receive blessings, we should also anticipate that we will receive tests and trials. God often orchestrates these trials (and their solution) to direct and fulfill His purpose for our lives. God has promised to supply all our needs—if we remain faithful and as long as we do not expect God to bless our mess. We must have faith in the will of God, in the way God prescribes, in the work of God, in the word of God, and the wonder of God. If God could and God might, God can and God will supply all our needs.
