Bernie Monsalvo, citing a sermon by a Protestant minister, claiming that the law (having been nailed to the cross) and the Sabbath have been done away, ‘liberating’ us from the law and providing us with Sunday worship, charges this naïve clergyman with flawed hermeneutics. Anti-Semitism within the Roman Catholic Church was one of the contributory causes for changing from Sabbath to Sunday worship. The law, according to the apostle Paul is holy and spiritual. The law was not nailed to the cross; sin and the death penalty were nailed to the cross. The law, like a mirror, reveals our flaws and our spiritual dirt. We do not do away with the mirror, but the spiritual dirt on our faces. In Psalm 119:97, David expressed love and adoration for God’s Law, desiring to (having the inclination to) assiduously walk in God’s paths, leading us to safety, away from lust, greed and covetousness. A covetous government (such as the one we now have), seemingly contemptuous of the tenth commandment, wants everything we have and has insidious plans to take it. Though the thoughts of God are verity, the thoughts of man are vanity. The only sure antidote to the vanity of a faulty world view is immersion in God’s Law. Though all of us have fallen short of God’s law, we can be justified by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who has paid the death penalty of our sin.
