James Moran, reflecting on the skyrocketing divorce rate and the out of control national and individual debts, suggests that Jacob’s troubles are upon us. Secular progressive leaders are getting rid of every vestige of God. We have followed our parents Adam and Eve in rejecting the tree of life, replacing it with the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Satan has from the beginning tried to destroy the institution of marriage by casting aspersions on God’s motives, inspiring instead the motivation of get, leading to sin and the shedding of blood. We are offered the same choices as Adam and Eve and our forebears. We need to submit and draw near to God and resist the Devil, humbling ourselves before the Lord. We need to develop close relationships with God and Jesus Christ, among our family, among our brethren, opening up a church in our home, while maintaining prayer, Bible study, meditation, and close, continuous contact with God. Marriage relationships should not happen “by accident;” love should not be something we “fall” into. Godly relationships require submission.
