Stan West, reflecting upon Gutenberg’s invention of the printing press and the popular saying, “I can read you like a book,” encourages us to think of our lives as the writing of a book. Some people, such as the Phariseees, are like walking encyclopedias, highly knowledgeable on specialized subjects. Some people are like comic books, dispensing therapeutic humor or foolishness. Some people are like novels, based upon experience, depicting triumphs and tragedies. Some people are like biographies, providing examples, good or bad for all to see. Although we should modify our lives to accommodate other peoples’ feelings, we need to modify our lives to accommodate God’s feelings toward us. Some peoples’ lives will end in tragedy if they refuse to modify their lives to obey God. Hopefully, we will be a positive letter, exemplifying Christ living in us through God’s Holy Spirit. Thankfully God can edit the negative parts of our lives when He forgives our sins.
