Dave Havir, giving us some preparatory materials for the Feast of Trumpets, suggests that one function of a trumpet is an alarm of war, making us churn inwardly. One of the functions of the ministry is to proclaim, as a watchman, the bad news of the current world in order to contrast with the good news of the kingdom of God. When we feel we have the responsibility to warn people, bringing bad news or constructive advice, we need to count the cost, making sure our motivation to warn comes from love. The trumpet can also be used as a signal for victory and praise. The trumpet will be used to signal Christ’s return, a time the remnants of Jacob will be reassembled in their own land, and the first fruits will be resurrected into immortality, a time depicted by the Feast of Trumpets.
