Neil McIver, acknowledging that this past week we have been commemorating one of the most horrendous events ever to happen to this country, admonishes us to put on the entire armor of God to withstand equally horrendous upcoming trials, tribulations, and spiritual battles, fully relying on God. We cannot fight these battles without having this armor. In addition to this armor, we are also admonished to put on Christ. Our enemy, Satan the Devil, is described as a roaring lion, a serpent, and a dragon. The armor we don to resist Satan does not belong to us, but is issued by God. We need to put on the whole armor of God, not just part of it. The fact that our backs seem to be uncovered suggests that God does not want us to turn back, using the sword of the spirit to make an effective frontal assault, defeating the perils of Satan’s evil world. We need to use God’s armor, not put it on display in a museum.
