Dave Havir, reflecting on people’s responses about what they hope for the future, suggests that we can learn a great deal from other people, even if we compare notes with Atheists or Agnostics. To those whom God has called, God has promised blessings now and in the future, paling into insignificance what we have given up now, including property, relationships (friends and family), and experiences. These blessings that we receive now we cannot assume as entitlements, taking financial or social advantage of brethren. Because persecutions are inevitable, we should build relationships, looking out for one another, certainly in the household of faith, but also in the community at large. Even though we should not be a respecter of persons, it is totally understandable that members of our own physical family have a special spot in our heart, consuming more of our time and attention than the community at large. As much as God blesses us today, our present circumstances cannot even remotely compare to the magnificent promises of eternal life in a new heaven and earth as members of the family of God.
