Dave Havir, focusing on Daniel 11:40, suggests that when dealing with horrendous problems it is always best to deal with them with facts and faith. Some people think they dogmatically know the identity of the King of the North and the King of the South, but the data is not all in to make this determination. One very probable insight is that the conflict between Muslim and Christian factions plays a big role in this prophecy. This prophecy was written in the time of captivity and occupation, a time when Roman rule subjugated the Jews, putting down several successive revolts. In 600 AD, the Muslims conquered Palestine igniting the conflict among Judaism, Christianity, and Islam leading to the Crusades, a time Christian nations attempted to retake Palestine from the Muslims in 12 successive partly successful attempts. In 1880, the Zionist movement began. Palestine was given to Britain to manage in 1920 after the war, and in 1947 the United Nations recommended a partitioning between a Jewish and an Arab state. In 1948 Israel became a nation. The conflict between Islam, Christian, and Jew has never abated since the Crusades. The Crusades, uniting the major factions of Christianity, failed to capture and hold Palestine. Future conflicts may again temporarily unite former enemies, but the outcome will be equally devastating.
