Dave Havir again reminds us that the best way to defeat fear is by fact and faith. Recently, a pastor likened the economic bondage that our country is going through to the economic bondage inflicted by Pharaoh in Genesis 47 (forgetting that the brainchild for this system was Joseph). The actual bondage of our forebears occurred later when a new pharaoh who did not know Joseph began to impose economic slavery on the children of Israel. The genesis of the welfare state was a panicky demand on the part of the populace to “feed us.” When the leader agreed to do so, it was on the condition that they barter away all their producer goods, their lands, and their service, making them de facto wards of the state. Pharaoh removed the people to cities making them virtual slaves, imposing confiscatory taxes. If the economy tanks, many citizens of modern Israel will be just as gullible, allowing themselves to become economic, as well as religious, bond slaves, obligated to worship the Beast. We need to rely on the promises of Isaiah 40 to see us through these future horrible times, realizing that God is ultimately in charge of everything
