Ed Costanza, focusing on the topic of redemption, suggests that Almighty God has put a tremendous amount of thought and planning into the concept of redemption, as is reflected by the precise requirements for redeeming the firstborn in the Old Testament, and the equally precise redemption of all of us from our calling through the sanctification process. As God redeemed our forebears in the Passover and the Exodus, God likewise redeems us. At one time God took all the Levites (with a detailed mathematical calculation) instead of the firstborn of the rest of Israel. We are redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ, set apart as a peculiar people, having zeal for righteous works. We, as the Israel of God, are now the firstborn among many brethren, to serve as kings and priests in the Kingdom of God, teaching God’s laws to the entire world, serving as a living sacrifice.
