Stan West, reflecting on a beautiful landscape that he witnesses every morning, asks whether we have something in our lives we can turn to and proclaim, “Yes, it is like that every morning” when it comes to our spiritual expectations and hope. Peter brought a message of hope to the scattered church in the early first century, promising that the age of fulfillment had dawned, inviting the elect to join the new community. Regarding our pilgrimage or temporal condition, we must remember that the world is a bridge; the wise man will cross over it, but not build his house upon it. A man can endure anything as long as he has something to look forward to; namely, the good news of God’s coming kingdom, revealed by Christ living us though God’s Holy Spirit. Without Christ, we have not a clue to our earthly purpose, given over to a hopeless, futile reprobate mind. The Christ-filled life is characterized as holy and set apart from others, having reverence to God Almighty, and demonstrating brotherly love. Prisoner of War Leo Thorsness demonstrated that by boldly proclaiming God, the opposition will melt. This hope, the good news, remains after everything else disappears.
