Neil McIver, cuing in on Song of Solomon 5:2-16, in which the Shulamite woman is pining after her beloved, reminds us that although this is one of two books that do not refer to God, it does contain a parable or allegory of the relationship of Israel for God or the Israel of God for Christ. Many times Christ has come seeking us, but we have turned Him away. When Christ calls us, He expects us to respond. The Shulamite woman describes her beloved as being pure and in perfect health, a “man’s man,” all-knowing, all-present, and all-powerful, someone to whom every knee will bow. The evils of this world are unimportant if we have Jesus as our Savior, God in the flesh, the King of kings, and, for God’s called out ones, the Bridegroom of His Church.
