J. L. Roden, observing how the Feast of Tabernacles was kept in the past, provides an overview of how the Feast has been kept in the past as well as a glimpse of how it will be kept in the future. In the assemblies called by Ezra, as the exiles returned, the people were instructed in the law, having constructed booths as counseled by Deuteronomy and Leviticus. Men, women, and children were meticulously exposed to the reading of God’s law. In addition, they were to celebrate joyfully, eating and drinking the best they could afford, being giddy and ecstatic, but not disrespectful of God. Jesus taught from the written law, expounding them in parables. The Feast Days represent God’s master plan, keeping us close to God. In the future, the Feast will be kept in the Millennium as indicated by Zechariah 14, when peace and knowledge of God will abound.
