Dennis Mouland, affirming that learning how God thinks is the most important thing a Christian should do, suggests that the world’s religions have many misconceptions about God. The most important work God is conducting on earth today consists of guiding us to think as He does. At a pivotal time when evil had reached a critical mass, God called Noah to build an ark, ensuring a new beginning to a creation that had deteriorated. Building the three story ark took considerable time, patience, and faith on the part of Noah. God chose to have Noah build this vessel one nail at a time. Most of God’s projects, including our own calling and conversion, seem to be constructed one nail at a time. The examples of Job, Daniel, Joseph, Moses, David, and Nebuchadnezzar, indicate long involved processes. The ministry of Jesus Christ was a lengthy, drawn-out process. God seems to place human beings in lengthy, labor-intensive procedures, building character block by block. Consequently, it is foolish for us to compare our trials with those of anyone else. Trials come on everyone in order that we may have the opportunity to learn from them. We have to eliminate the vanity of saying, “I don’t deserve this.” Holy righteous character is not created by fiat, but must be developed by arduous rigor, involving gut-wrenching trials and tests–one day at a time, one nail at a time. God will faithfully finish the project He has started. We need to wait on the Lord, receiving strength to conquer the trials.
