Bernie Monsalvo, focusing on Jeremiah 31, a transition period prophecy for the nation of Israel, a time the northern tribes had broken away and had hopelessly sunk into sin and depravity, warns a remnant of God’s displeasure with Judah for its disobedience, idolatry, and religious decadence, proclaiming its imminent captivity. Because the Temple of the Lord had a prominent place in Judah, the people smugly thought that God would condone a hypocritical double standard; this behavior unfortunately mirrors the attitude and behavior of modern Israel. Jeremiah speaks of a future time when Israel will be re-gathered and restored with a new covenant, a time when God’s laws (His Torah) will be indelibly written on their hearts (through the means of God’s Holy Spirit) and their sins will be forgiven.
