Stan West, referring to a book which assumes unique virtues for left-handed people, admonishes us that we should not regard ourselves as superior to anyone, but should take this time before Passover to thoroughly examine ourselves and discern the body of Christ (I Corinthians 11:23). The greater church of God, unlike the churches of this world, keeps the Passover annually, as prescribed by Jesus Christ. We should systematically examine our lives in the weeks approaching the Passover, looking into the spiritual mirror, looking for blemishes and shortcomings to eliminate. Not all self-examination is pleasant, but when we have genuinely repented, the ultimate end is pleasant. Three realities which confront us are: (1) the harsh fleshly reality that all flesh is as grass (I Peter 1:1), hopelessly anchored in human nature; (2) God's Word guides us through the sanctification stage of conversion, as we are a spiritual work in progress, and; (3) the glorification stage, when we will be transformed into spirit beings, very children of God, experiencing eternal life as we live as God lives. God has indeed placed a great emphasis on the spiritual creation. When we examine our lives, we must emphasize the little things, realizing that character and righteousness are accrued incrementally; little things make a difference. Examination of ourselves should be ultimately a positive process, remembering that if we judge ourselves, we will not be judged by others.
