Dave Havir, reflecting on some estimates of our chemical or material worth, suggests that it does not amount to very much. It is a mistake to consider ourselves as worthless, but on the other hand, it is a grave mistake to overestimate our importance, realizing that God can easily get along without us and His plan will continue with or without us. This pompous approach, based upon a pronounced sense of inferiority and a desire to validate ourselves, is really another variety as viewing ourselves as worthless. Actually, God does regard us as precious, having been mindful of us before we were even born, loving us when we were still sinners. We have a lot of worth in God’s eyes. God desires that we communicate with Him ceaselessly in prayer, speaking openly, boldly, and frankly to Him, casting all our cares upon Him, realizing that often we find ourselves hopelessly in the clutches of carnality. Taking our cue from the apostle Paul, we realize the depths of our carnality, but we are also mindful of the solution, the redemption through Jesus Christ. God is there to help us. When we recognize that we have worth and value to God Almighty, we feel obligated to show our love to Him by obeying His commandments and being transformed into His likeness.
