Ed Mitchell, suggesting that one of life’s premier blessings is to experience a marriage filled with joy and excitement, also laments the tragic event of a marriage falling apart, drifting from lukewarm to indifference to outright hatred leading to divorce. Realizing the importance of cultivating relationships, we need to ascertain how much we love God. As the future bride of Christ, we have to submit as husbands and wives need to submit to one another. Christ will separate Himself from a one-sided relationship. The first love that we once experienced for the truth has waned. We need to re-invigorate our excitement and joy, refocusing our goals from the cares of this world back to the love of God. God will not stay with a one-sided love relationship, but expects a reciprocal demonstration of love from us. We need to resist the enticements of false teachers, remaining loyal to God, contending earnestly for the faith once delivered. We are obligated to love God fervently, more than we love God’s people (who are currently scattered to the four winds), our family, and our own lives.
