Dave Havir, suggesting that while we should continuously strive to learn from our studying, warns us that study does not always guarantee learning, and indeed almost becomes weariness to the bones. Just because we see something in print or on the Internet does not make it true. The best antidote to heresy, false doctrines, or misinformation is the truth. We need to attain proper study habits such as writing out the concept to reinforce it on our minds, emulating the practice of future kings in Deuteronomy to write down a copy of God’s Law. We should also read and hear the Word of God. In addition to the Bible, there are other edifying materials to read and meditate upon, grounding them, of course, on the principles of the Bible. Jesus Christ marveled at some Gentile examples, such as the faith of the Centurion or the woman of Canaan. If we are going to be a light to this world, we must learn from other cultures as the apostle Paul had modeled for us, acknowledging his debt to Jew and Gentile alike. We should study the Bible for encouragement, correction, people of the Bible, books of the Bible, Bible history, Bible prophecy, doctrine to help ourselves and unbelievers, and the teachings and actions of Christ.
