Stan West, focusing on the topic “The Blessings of a Mother,” suggests that mothers seem to have a better insight on life than other people. The prologue and the epilogue both deal with wisdom, both acknowledge a debt to mothers, portraying them as take-charge, resourceful, and productive women, providing a model to our wives and mothers. Even though the men led the wave of exploration westward taming the wilderness, the land was not civilized until the women came along. Women are personified in scripture as wisdom and love, exemplifying the characteristics in I Corinthians 13:4-7. The sermon concludes with a father’s touching tribute to his daughter who is anticipating becoming a mother, trying to find the words to explain to her how much her life will dramatically change.
