Bernie Monsalvo, acknowledging that prophets of God have been around since the time of Enoch, having lived exemplary lives (walking perpetually with God) and serving as spiritual advisors, having been appointed with a message from God, examines the credentials of Peter: prophet and apostle. One cannot appoint himself as a prophet; it is a special office set apart by God. Prophets of God are not ostentatious tent-revival rock stars, but serve humbly, taking the message of God to a specific audience that God has sent them. Before they have been sent, apostles have been rigorously tested to prove their faithfulness, polished, and specially chosen to testify publically of Jesus Christ, teaching doctrine, conduct, and order. Many who approbate the title of apostle, but have not been sent by God, prove by their fruits that they desire the praises of man and the accompanying power instead of the approval of God. Peter was the antithesis, neither desiring the praises of man nor fearing the threats of man, but fearing only God, seeking only His approval. In addition to Peter, Paul was also called from his mother’s womb to be an apostle. Those claiming to be apostles today have brought about much confusion about God’s message, failing to comprehend that no prophecy is of any private interpretation, but is thoroughly grounded in existing scripture.
