Neil McIver, expounding on the parable of the sower, suggests that the sowing of the seed was indiscriminate, indicating that God intended to make His Word available to many different audiences, anticipating a sizable harvest. As members of God’s church, we have been sowing the seed of God’s Word through the Webcast, church visits, and Bible studies, anticipating a future harvest. When we live the Word of God, Satan attempts to take away the seed; he still believes that the promises made to us are his. Even though we hear the Word of God with gladness, we need to put forth effort to retain it, developing a solid root system for anchorage, resisting persecution. The thorns and weeds metaphorically represent the cares and concerns of life (money and things), capable of choking the word right out of us. If we stay in the Word, not becoming distracted, we will produce the Fruit of the Spirit, progressing toward the Kingdom of God.
