Dennis Mouland, reflecting on a joke about scientists who erroneously conclude after amputating all four of the frog’s legs that frogs that have no legs are deaf, delves into some biases, misinformation, and distortions which prevent people from processing accurate information. In this age of ultimate spin, we run the risk of people deceiving and misleading us by false rumors and downright lies. Global warming, based on highly incomplete data, appears a deliberate, blatant lie, politicized for the purpose of controlling the production and distribution of hydrocarbons. We can manipulate statistics to prove a lie. People will believe anything when it is accompanied with dazzling (but spurious) statistics. We cannot automatically assume that if we have trials that God is upset with us or, vice versa, if we prosper, we have God’s favor. The physical church we cannot assume to be God’s government. Let us be wary of “proof-texting” to establish a tenuous but dubious doctrine. Overcoming is a complex process requiring the help of Almighty God to destroy erroneous computations and perceptions. In the last few years, our perception about what constitutes ‘the church’ has undergone a drastic metamorphosis, enabling us to distinguish fallible and imperfect organizations from God’s perfect organism. We have had many instances of deaf frog thinking distorting our perception of God and one another.
