Dave Havir, focusing on the power of trust, reminds us that trusting in man will bring us disappointment, but trusting in the Eternal will bring contentment and security. When we trust God, He delivers from death and sickness. Even though our ultimate trust is in the Eternal, there are times and occasions that it is psychologically healthy to trust in other human beings. Not trusting in anyone invites paranoia. We need to trust our intuition when it comes to placing trust in other people. Liking, respecting, and trusting people describe progressive levels of quality relationships with other people. It is possible to like or love people (finding good in them) without respecting or trusting them. Christ was willing to die for people that He neither respected nor trusted. We must cultivate likability or friendliness in us, based on contentment and happiness. We need to be quick to hear, asking questions of the other person, showing an avid interest in them. We should be extremely slow to anger. We need to cultivate the reputation of being individuals of upright character and integrity, demonstrating sterling trustworthiness such as that exemplified by David and Jonathan. Trust is built by deeds or actions rather than words.
