Neil McIver, anticipating the coming Passover season, invites us to begin preparing for this event by examining our faults. In order to attain the path to freedom, we must come to grips with our guilt, a powerful, destructive emotion which separates us from God and one another, and keeps us hopelessly stuck in the past. We must come clean with Almighty God, taking a thorough moral inventory, asking God to search us, revealing to us things that we may be unaware. We need to take personal responsibility for our faults. To attain freedom from guilt, we must diligently ask for God’s forgiveness, always remaining pliable and soft, able to be molded by the master’s hand. We must be willing to admit our faults to one another (those we can trust and confide in) asking them to pray for us. As God forgives us, we must be willing to forgive ourselves. The road to emotional freedom can be travelled if we make positive change. In order to travel this road, we must acknowledge that we are not God (the reality step), know that God exists (the hope step), commit our steps to Christ’s control (control step), admit our faults (examining step) and yielding to God (the submission step). In this manner we can come to grips with our character defects, allowing God to transform our carnal nature into His nature.
