Dave Havir, reflecting on the grim situation in the Middle East, focuses on the concept of finding the positive in life. Joseph, who experienced negative evil circumstances, recognized that God can turn the most evil intents of man into the most positive good. God often does not reveal to us the positive in the situation until years later. Although we should recognize the negative, we should look for how God will work out eventual positive consequences. When we choose a fiancé, buy a car, buy a house, we need to first recognize the worst flaws and then look for the possibilities, dwelling and building on the positive. Caleb was aware of the difficulties, but he was inspired by the possibilities, and reordered the processing of information from negative to positive. Like Paul, we must recognize the negative Alexander’s, but also the positive Onesiphorisuses. Our Elder Brother’s soul was also troubled, but He asked God for strength to go through the difficult task God the Father had set before Him, realizing it would be for ultimate good.
