Stan West, speaking on the topic of etiquette and making introductions, maintains that the most important introduction we have ever received was our initial meeting with God the Father and Jesus Christ. This meeting, noted in John 1:1-15, is considered the real beginning of the Bible. In Genesis 1:1, we become introduced to God as the Creator of the universe and physical earth and later to the prophecy of Jesus in Genesis 3:14. We need to be grateful for our introduction to Jesus Christ made possible by God the Father’s calling, our re-introduction to Jesus Christ, and our opportunity and responsibility to introduce others to Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is “the Way” or “the Gate” to the Father and a more abundant life. At times it is necessary to become re-introduced to Jesus Christ when our relationship has become attenuated and we have sinned, straying from God’s law. As Hezekiah initiated reforms re-instituting the observance of the Passover in the temple, we need to annually consecrate and purify ourselves, through prayer, studying, meditating, and fasting before the Passover, enabling us model repentance to others, introducing Jesus Christ to others as He lives His life in us.
