Dave Havir, focusing on I Corinthians 11:27, encourages all of us to thoroughly examine ourselves before the Passover. In this regard, we must regard ourselves as little children, prone to exuberance, but also carelessness. God watches us carefully, making sure we do not “fall off the stage.” We need to be careful that we do not rally around people, as did the congregation at Corinth, demonstrating their spiritual immaturity. The congregation in Corinth also demonstrated their carelessness by tolerating perversions. They demonstrated their carelessness by being puffed up with knowledge. We demonstrate our spiritual immaturity or carelessness when we murmur and blame others. We demonstrate spiritual maturity or carelessness when we form cliques, showing discourtesy to those outside of our clique. We show spiritual immaturity or carelessness when we eat or drink to excess. If we judge ourselves, using self-discipline, we will have less judging from God.
