Dave Havir - Learning From The Passovers of Hezekiah and Josiah

Dave Havir, reflecting on the historical Passovers of Hezekiah and Josiah, acknowledges that, though we use different symbols, we can still learn lessons from these events. Passover observance has not been consistent through history. We can learn from these historical Passovers (referred to as the best ever) the importance of sanctifying the temple, something we need to do with the spiritual temple. Jesus Christ is our High Priest; the most important thing we can do to prepare for Passover is to develop a relationship with Jesus Christ who is not only our High Priest, but also the Sacrificial Lamb, worth more than all the combined animal sacrifices ever offered. None of us are “good” enough or “ready” enough to partake of the symbols. We should not be condemnatory to anyone who wants to join us in the partaking of Passover; God alone can determine someone’s readiness. We cannot properly prepare for grace. Only God can determine who is spiritually circumcised. The symbols of the Passover we do in remembrance of Jesus Christ.
