Bernie Monsalvo, continuing from the lesson last week over the greatest escape in history, reminds us that while the exodus of our forebears from Egypt was noteworthy, the escape from the bondage of sin by the Israel of God greatly eclipses the original escape through the Red Sea. God performed the miracles in both instances. The Egyptians (symbolic of sin and Satan) did not take this removal of slaves sitting down, but exercised maximum force, and were thwarted by a greater spiritual force, showing loving-kindness to His called-out ones and utterly crushing the enemy (symbolic of Satan and his demons).Without our Savior Jesus Christ, there is no possible chance for escape. When Christ delivers us, Satan, like Pharaoh, pulls out all stops to harass us spiritually, attempting to intimidate and discourage us. Our forebears were intimidated by Pharaoh and his legions; Satan and his demons desire to dishearten us as well, making us believe that we either capitulate to sin and evil or die—a patently false dilemma. We must remember that God does not do things ‘to us’ but ‘for us,’ having our best interests as His highest priority. We must continually trust in God’s power to deliver and sustain us. God is concerned about our spiritual welfare, giving His Son to enable reconciliation with Him and to give us exceedingly great and precious promises of partaking of God’s divine nature, enabling us to bear spiritual fruit. We should respond to God’s call to action, purging out sin and appropriating the unleavened bread of sincerity, giving highest priority to making our calling sure. Escape without deliverance is not salvation. We have been offered both. Even in our trials, God is working out His purpose in us. We need to stay faithful to God, following the steps He has outlined, overcoming the enemy with righteousness. This day not only pictures the deliverance from the enemy, but also the magnificent salvation of our Lord.
