Dave Havir, reminding us of the reasons we obey God, asks us to consider why we obey and our motivations to obey. We obey because we desire to be blessed right now, to be blessed in the Resurrection, and to willingly honor God now. In order to attain God’s freedom, we have to comply with God’s expectations. Sometimes the blessings come now as a result of obeying His precepts, accruing wisdom in the process. Sometimes the blessings may not come to us until after the Resurrection. Life may seem not fair because we are not reciprocated in this life for all the serving and sacrifice we may do. We need to obey God as an expression of honor and loyalty, endeavoring to be vessels of honor. We need to mature sufficiently that we do not do things just to be rewarded, but just because it is the right thing to do. We love God because He first loved us. Grace brings accountability and responsibility.
