Neil McIver, reflecting on the effects of anesthesia during a recent surgical procedure, draws some parallels between recovering from anesthesia and the Resurrection and our walk with Christ. Paul referred to a walk as a prisoner of Jesus Christ, suggesting that all who followed Christ were metaphorically slaves of Jesus Christ. We have the choice of becoming a slave of sin, or a slave of righteousness—if we follow Christ. If we are slaves of righteousness, then we are set free from our bonds to sin. We have a “working” walk with specific assignments, a “worthy” walk by the example of our lives, a “wholehearted” walk, being different from the world, a “wonderful” walk in love, the defining trait of His disciples, demonstrated through love for our savior, for our brother, and the sinner, a “witnessing” walk, walking in the light, and a “wise” walk, walking with our eyes open looking for opportunities to serve and avoiding the traps of Satan.
