Bernie Monsalvo reflects that every time we observe the Passover and the Days of Unleavened Bread, we are closer to the return of Jesus Christ. We are admonished by Jesus Christ not to take anxiety about the future, but simply take proper daily measures, and the future will take care of itself. God promised our forebears a Promised Land—a land flowing with milk and honey. The first step in their release from bondage was the sacrifice of the Passover Lamb, symbolizing the future sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The episode at the Red Sea illustrated the short-lived faith of the children of Israel, as they mistakenly believed they were on the horns of a dilemma. God continually prodded the children of Israel to move forward, warning that ‘going back’ is never an option. Likewise, going back is no option to us as we follow the Rock of Christ in our spiritual wilderness journey, realizing that He is powerful enough to deliver us from any trial. Sometimes the longest journey proves the safest journey, allowing incremental overcoming of fears and obstacles. If our forebears had learned to trust God earlier, the journey would not have taken so long. All of God’s commands are positive; the sooner we respond, the sooner we will experience positive results. We need to continue to follow God’s lead until it is time for Christ to return. Following Joshua’s lead, we need to give the entire credit to God. It takes courage to be a Christian today; it will take more in the future, requiring that we trust Christ, our Rock.
