Dave Havir, asking us whether we really believe, suggests that true faith must become based on reality. The trials may be real, but the promises of God are also real. We must count the cost regarding commitment to discipleship. Christ has to come first as we size up the situation. Joshua and Caleb realistically apprized the size of the task entering the Promised Land, factoring God’s ability to deliver on His promises. Caleb had to wait more than 45 years to receive his inheritance. Likewise, many in the greater church of God have not seen the payoff of all their sacrifices. We must develop an iron clad faith in God’s promises and His ability to deliver us from our trials, realizing He is the God of all mercy and the God of comfort. As He delivers us from our trials, we can reciprocate to other people going through trials. Through God’s Holy Spirit, we have confidence that our inner man is being renewed every day. We are obligated to put up with the temporary, but also to ardently believe in God’s promises.
