Stan West - Shaping History Through Prayer and Fasting

Stan West, reflecting on a historical proclamation for prayer and fasting by President Abraham Lincoln, begging the God of the universe to forgive our national sins and extend us mercy, admonishes us to return to these solemn principles, acknowledging and honoring the national day of prayer. We have many examples throughout scripture in which collective prayer has changed the course of history. Jehoshaphat led his nation in collective prayer, realizing that God alone could deliver His people from peril. God enabled Judah to defeat its enemies without the need for weapons, giving Jehoshaphat a peaceful reign. William Bradford recorded specific incidents of God’s protection and providence, including relief from drought and famine. President George Washington called for both days of prayer and thanksgiving for God’s protection and providence. Recently Governor Rick Perry has called for a day of fasting and prayer on August 6, 2011. It would be well if God’s called-out ones would support this courageous decision to pray for our state and nation.
