Neil McIver - What Do We Do When We Can't Make It Rain?

Neil McIver, asking what we do when it won’t rain, focuses on the drought described in I Kings 17, when God miraculously fed Elijah by the ravens. Elijah was instructed by God to tell Ahab that drought would occur for 42 months. Like Elijah, we sometimes have to wait a long time for a miracle to occur, learning to trust in God for the results, and not fighting against His shaping process. We need to wait and listen in times of dryness. Elijah was spared the drought by taking refuge in a widow’s house, listening to the counsel and instruction from God. The miracle may not come from the direction we had anticipated. A disaster may be the precursor to a miracle. The boll weevil wiped out the cotton crop, but enabled farmers to cash in on the peanut bonanza. God knows what is best for us in the final analysis; we have to develop the ability to trust God unconditionally. God often plans to do more for us than we can ever imagine. God may want to adjust an area in our life which is currently out of balance. God knows exactly what we need. Christ actually prays for us to keep us steadfast, making us depend on Him unconditionally. God will meet our needs at His time and His pleasure.
