Reg Killingley, reflecting on his daughter’s recent purchase of a car, suggests at one point in the purchase, God’s will must be factored in. When we make any decision, it is useful to ponder the extent to which God’s will determines the outcome. Some have speculated that everything that happens is God’s will, simply because it happens. Some might find this idea a little strained even though we are aware that everything is in God’s purview (Matthew 10). In all our plans, we ought to acknowledge and actively seek God’s will on a daily basis, deferring to God the Father’s will as had our Elder Brother. It is often difficult and complex to ascertain God’s will, as can be seen in our myriad choices of food, methods of education, politics, entertainment, and religion. God often tolerates our bargaining as he had with father Abraham. Sometimes God may bless us with positive results even though we may have initially botched things up. God can work with human misjudgment, working things out in spite of our mistakes. God’s will applies to the whole composite picture. We humans make our lives unnecessarily complicated, but we need to act, even with partial data, realizing that not every venture will succeed. We do the best we can in the little things, trusting God to bless the results.
