| J.L .Roden, suggesting the deception prophesied in Matthew 24:4-5 can grow surreptitiously and incrementally, examines two deceptive philosophies extant in society today. The first fallacy is the idea that ‘social justice' is supported by Jesus Christ. Freewill charity is endorsed by Jesus Christ; coercion by government is not charity, but grand theft. We will always have the poor with us, but Jesus never taught that a coercive governmental agency should equalize and redistribute the wealth. The second pathogenic fallacy advanced by many secular progressives today is that Capitalism and Christianity are incompatible because wealth, or the attaining of wealth, is inherently evil. Avarice and greed (often motivating socialistic practitioners to acquire power by stealing from the productive and redistributing it to the non-productive) are inherently evil, but minerals, including gold and silver, are neutral. Abraham was a wealthy man, yet he did not have a trace of the lust and avarice which people sometimes associate with wealthy people. Wealthy employers were admonished not to cheat their hired workers in wages. Usury was forbidden when dealing with brethren and countrymen, but lawful interest and ordinary rent were not.
