Bernie Monsalvo focuses on the feasts of the Lord identified in Leviticus 23:1-4, 26, including the Sabbath, a period of time God has blessed from the creation of the earth, as well as the Day of Atonement, a day in which we afflict our souls by fasting. We are to rest and refrain from any work. God’s decree makes this period of time holy, a time in which we are mandated to attend a solemn assembly. This day God intended as a day of expiation, pardon, covering, and forgiveness. Fasting denotes repentance and dependence upon God, not penance and self immolation. Jesus Christ, our High Priest, has given His life as a sacrifice, covering our sins. We have a deeply felt need to be free from sin and it’s attending wages of death. Jesus Christ’s sacrifice restored us to our harmonious relationship with God. Jesus Christ’s offering for us enables us to go boldly before the throne to ask for forgiveness and restoration.
