Dave Havir, focusing on Ezekiel 22:30, reminds us that God is always looking for someone who will, in the wake of incredible hardships and difficulty, stand in the gap, just as the man in Tiananmen Square risked his life standing against armored tanks. We need to be prepared to stand up against evil, tyranny, falsehood, injustice, protecting the falsely accused, the underdog, and someone who has been abused, regardless of the consequences. The people who will be in the Holy Hill of God must be brave and resolute, rather than compromising and weak-willed like many current politicians. There is a time to take a stand in the gap, serving as an intercessor on behalf of others, such as Abraham interceding for his nephew Lot and the city of Sodom, Moses interceding on behalf of his wayward people, beseeching God to refrain from exercising His fierce wrath, willing to absorb the penalty himself. The entreaties of Moses on behalf of his people pleased God. Paul made similar entreaties on behalf of his people. Will we also stand as a hedge for our people?
