Ron Feaker, citing an article from a local paper, in which a 148 pound lady was able to dead-lift 319 pounds and relating an incident from his youth, suggests that young people seem to have a feeling of invincibility, but soon learn about their mortality. The older we get, though our physical strength may diminish, our spiritual strength should be getting stronger. Unfortunately, we sometimes wane in our zeal. We need to have the power of God’s Holy Spirit to take on greater spiritual tasks, enabling us to increase our strength according to His power. Day by day we should be absorbing God’s word, guarding ourselves against entanglement from the world. Superficially “keeping” the Commandments without total commitment to God’s purpose for us does not demonstrate spiritual strength. We need to emulate the effort of the ant, showing perseverance at our tasks, but continuous dependence upon God, realizing that time and chance happens to us all. We need to be routinely using the tools of spiritual growth: Bible study, fasting, prayer, and meditation. The Feast of Tabernacles pictures a time when the Bridegroom will be with us on earth, when peace will abound and we can rejoice in the Lord. Our spiritual strength comes from our Loving Father in Heaven.
